How old were you when you first got a pet(any pet – fish/bird/cat)?

Sarah: I had a hamster when I was about 7. His name was Billy!

Tom: I never really had a pet until we adopted Murph! I would have been 26, which seems very old to have a first pet! haha.

How did you come up with the names, do they have any specific Significance?

Sarah: Murph was already named when we adopted her. We thought it was quirky, so we kept it.

Tom: Doug was also a rescue, but he had no name when he was given to the adoption centre! We put a ‘U’ into ‘Dog’ and from that day on he was Doug!

How old is Murph?

Tom: We think Murph is about 6 years old, but she still acts like a puppy whenever she gets excited!

What breeds are your dogs?

Sarah: Murph is a Belgian Malinois, crossed with a Mastiff. Doug was a Jack Russell Terrier.

What are your Murph and Doug’s favorite food?

Sarah: Doug used to literally eat anything he could get hold of and was a professional food finder! He could sniff out something to eat anywhere we went.

Tom: Murph loves chicken nuggets, biscuits and anything salty!

What is your Murph and Doug’s favorite game to play with you?

Tom: Doug was quite old when we adopted him, so he wasn’t very interested in playing often. Though he did occasionally play tug with a rope toy!

Sarah: Murph loves chasing a ball at the park, although she’s never quite mastered how to give the ball back. Most of the time she drops it randomly and we have to go and find it for her! haha.

Do you go outdoors? If yes, where is your favorite place to go together?

Both: The beach!

Sarah: We live in Southend-on-Sea in Essex, UK, so the beach is right on our doorstep. Murph enjoys splashing around in the sea and trying to chase birds.

What is a bad habit that Murph and Doug each have?

Sarah: Murph always pulls on her lead whilst on walks.

Tom: As we mentioned before, Doug would scavenge all the time and eat ANYTHING he could find. It was gross.

What is the best thing about Murph and Doug respectively?

Sarah: Murph has a really mischievous personality, so it’s always fun having her around. She’s also very adventurous.

Tom: Doug was so funny to be with – just like an old man in a dog’s body! He was the sweetest dog we’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. When we adopted him, he was very nervous but his confidence grew with us and it was amazing to see that change over the years.

What is the funniest memory involving Murph and Doug?

Tom: I once had to jump in our friend’s swimming pool fully clothed to save Doug who’d fallen in! Luckily, he was fine – just a bit wet. I also had my wallet and mobile phone in my pocket…

Sarah: We do yoga every morning and without fail, she is always there to get under our feet and completely in the way. It always makes us laugh when we can’t concentrate because she’s licking our faces the whole time!

What is the hardest thing about being a dog owner?

Sarah: Having to face the fact that one day they will no longer be with us. It’s always going to be heartbreaking but considering the endless joy that they bring, it’s so worth it.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a dog owner?

Tom: Having them by your side every day and the way that they love us back just as much as we love them.

Lyric Video for “Good Boy”

Listen to Your Dog/Good Boy:

The band explain: “The first track was written while sitting on the floor with our dog Murph – it’s made up of all the questions we would ask her if she could talk. The second track is about our other dog Doug who passed away in 2019, detailing how heartbreaking it is to lose a pet.”
