A Teenager’s Ultimate Guide To Start A Successful Blog

Are you a teenager thinking about starting your own blog? Here are some tips from Ayush on how to get your own blog up and running.

Blogging – this term fascinates me a lot and I expect since you are reading this you would love to know what actually blogging is and how to get it live on the web. When I was 13, I got to know about the term blogging and at the age of 15.

I started my blog named Seen In The City (now closed) – it was a kind of successful run as I was getting a pretty decent amount of visitors on the website and the most crucial part is that they enjoyed my articles. I didn’t kill off my idea completely but started The Teen Pop as a multi-author blog cum magazine where everyone is free to share their opinions and views.

Blogging is talking about your lifestyle and the thing which you enjoy the most. I used a number of productive tools and started sharing my views on them over the Internet by using my blog as a medium. I love blogging and I try my best to write as many articles as I can. Enough talking, let’s get into it.

Step 1: Identifying Your Niche

You wanna start a blog? (definitely, yes that’s why you are here). For example, if your friend is running a productivity blog and becoming a star of this world. Probably, the idea of starting a blog might have hit you and you would have started thinking that if he can write on productivity then why not I?

You can definitely start a blog no doubt but chances are low that people would visit you often as your interest doesn’t lie in it and there is also a probability that you won’t be able to produce content like your friend does.

The way you write defines what your views are towards a given topic. You need to identify what thing you enjoy the most. You can’t simply copy things of others at least not in terms of content or niche. You know what, everyone is made different some like swimming, others like dancing and this series goes on. Even if your blog starts running pretty well, still you won’t be able to dominate your niche.

Step 2: Numbers Don’t Matter, I Repeat They Don’t

You might have heard this famous saying – ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. The same goes in here. You simply can’t dominate your niche in a single day or in a week or in a month or maybe in a year as well! I understand that this would definitely make you feel depressed and less happy and that’s true as you are putting much effort into it and still you are not getting any results. But you know what, patience and persistence would only help you to continue in this field.

It really doesn’t matter whether your blog is read by millions or thousands of people or not even by hundreds. The thing that matters is how constantly and effectively you are putting your content. Don’t start competing with other’s blogs, I repeat don’t. Everyone grows differently, you need to find out what way you are growing well. Good things take time to come. It’s not like they won’t come at all but they might take some time to come to you.

Step 3: Choosing A Perfect Medium ]

I firmly believe that platforms don’t matter, the thing that matters the most is how effectively you are making and curating content. It’s the content that would help you win not medium. However, there are certain situations where your platforms play a role (not major). For example, WordPress-based sites tend to perform better than Wix-based sites in google search. However, some professional bloggers use Wix but they constitute a very small percentage.

The majority of bloggers use WordPress.org, WordPress is one of the best blogging platforms available for free. There is a steeper learning curve but it is worth it. Other than WordPress and Wix we have Medium, Vocal. Media and many others. I have used Medium in the past and definitely loved it a bit.

Medium is a platform where you can write articles similar to WordPress but there is an advantage (only in some situations), you don’t have to worry about Search Engine Optimization or SEO. SEO is the prime factor that influences your presence on search results.

Your content needs to be SEO-friendly in order to rank on Google and its featured Snippets or in Discover feed. However, this advantage comes to you only in some situations not always.

Another WordPress we have is Ghost CMS. I love Ghost it’s made for only those people who are mostly into writing. You can call it an open-source Medium alternative. Ghost CMS is SEO rich and it definitely helps you to rank better in search results. Weebly is also there but I won’t recommend you to go with this as there are numerous limitations when using it.

At the end of the day, I would recommend you to go with WordPress.

Step 4: Technical Know-How

Since you are new in this field, I won’t recommend you start investing right away. You can use WordPress for free forever and can build your audience there. After reaching a decent amount of readers you can definitely go for paid ones. However, if you are still willing to invest few bucks each year in it then who am I to stop you from doing this?

You would need a domain name and host in order to run a website. Domain Names are like the nameplate of your house and hosting is your house 😊. Got it? A domain name helps browsers (Chrome, Edge) to understand where the visitor wants to go and Hosting caters to the demands of the visitors much like nameplate and house.

While setting up hosting and domain names you would encounter a number of new terms like Nameservers, cPanel, TXT records, MX Records and a lot more. We would recommend you to use Hostinger that is by far the best Web Hosting provider that too a very cheap rate. Along with your purchase, you would get a domain name so you don’t need to worry about configuring one.

Step 5: Don’t Be A Part of A Crowd

Don’t be part of a crowd if you are new. Don’t try to imitate a famous blogger of your niche. Don’t try to copy a trend or write articles on highly competitive keywords or topics as at the end of the day you won’t get many visitors. As popular blogs would have it already got published with better SEO and in-depth analysis your website would find it really difficult to stand among them.

Try to go for less competitive keywords or topics so that your website could at least rank and then only it can dominate your niche. You can try Google Trends to know what’s been trending on Google or you can use your own brain to find it. Let me give you an example.

Suppose, you are running a cooking blog you wrote an article about how to make omelet. Now, you already there are billions of websites that has this already so how is yours different? You can try ‘making omelet with potato’ or ‘making omelet for baby’ this would help you cutting down competition and would help you to rank better on Google.

Step 6: The Best Marketing Strategy Costing $0 for Teenagers

The Best Marketing Strategy Costing $0 for Teenagers

You might have noticed that when a festival comes around, your favourite bloggers send you emails wishing you. Now that’s called email marketing. But did you understand the hidden message here? If you don’t then let me break it up into pieces. I am going to take a real-world example, you might have noticed your favourite app, Netflix sends you a notification when a festival is around the corner or any new web series has launched matching your interests and that fascinates you to click on that notification.

Now the question over here is, Why does Netflix behave like this? Even, if they won’t notify us, we would still end up watching some shows on it. It notifies us to display that they care about us and this is the same strategy you have to use in your blog. You have to show your visitors that you care about them. That would lead to hard work but it would help you in building a long-term relationship that won’t get over easily. You can send them some free virtual gifts maybe a printable planner or even a simple message of love would help you to make your relationship with your user stronger.

And that’s an end to this article. If you liked this article, do let me know in the comments below, I would love to know. Also, this is not an end, I would soon bring up a very fresh edition to help you travel on this path. Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter.
